Harvest Thanksgiving 

2025 

in the Aughaval Group 


Season of Creation

Collect



Eternal God, 

you crown the year with your goodness 

and give us fruits of the earth in their season.


Grant that we may use them to your glory,


for the relief of those in need and for our own well-being: 

through Jesus Christ our Lord. 



Luke 12: 16-30

 

Then he [Jesus] told them a parable: ‘The land of a rich man produced
 abundantly. And he thought to himself, “What should I do, for I have no place to store my crops?” Then he said, “I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.” But God said to him, “You fool! This very night your life is being demanded of you. And the things you have prepared, whose will they be?” So it is with those who store up treasures for themselves but are not rich towards God.’

 


He said to his disciples, ‘Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat, or about your body, what you will wear. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing. Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds! And can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life? If then you are not able to do so small a thing as that, why do you worry about the rest? Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these. 

 

But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will he clothe you—you of little faith! And do not keep striving for what you are to eat and what you are to drink, and do not keep worrying. For it is the nations of the world that strive after all these things, and your Father knows that you need them.

  • Westport - 12 noon in St Mary's Church (presently hosting Holy Trinity Westport), followed by tea in Carrowbeg House
  • Dugort, Achill - 3pm in St Thomas's Dugort, followed by tea in St Thomas's Hall

Sat 20 Sept, 7pm, Turlough Harvest Thanksgiving Service

Followed by tea and treats in the church. 
All are invited and welcome. Children and young people especially welcome!



Sat 25 October, Inishbiggle Harvest Thanksgiving Service

Gathering at Doran's Point at 9.30am for 10am departure by currach, and returning around 2.30pm. Please contact us if you wish to book a place on the boat and come along.  Details to follow.

Return to Inishbiggle, Sat 15 February 2025

  It was especially joyful for a few of us from mainland Mayo to step foot again on Inishbiggle on 15th February, having been prevented by the weather from sailing on our last attempt at the end of November 2024. While on this occasion it was lashing in Limerick, wet in Westport, and raining cats and dogs in Castlebar, the sun was splitting the clouds gloriously on the approach to beautiful Biggle. Also uplifting was to arrive at the church and on entering to find it looking, if not transfigured, transformed - for example, with its newly-stripped and repolished pews, clean floors, doors, harmonica and walls, and a close-to-spotless vestry into the bargain. Hats off and enormous thanks to the church wardens for the hours of painstaking work - truly a labour of love for this precious and important place of gathering and worship, emanating from a sincere love for God and his people, of all faiths and persuasions. Inishbiggle blessings, on the Eve of St Bartholomew's Day, 23 August

  Return to Inishbiggle  A happy day was enjoyed on Saturday 23rd August when a group of ten people, which included some from Castlebar, Westport, Galway, Kilkenny and Dublin - made the short crossing by currach from Doran’s Point to ‘Biggle’.  As always the passengers were well cared for by ferrymen Michael and Tim, and we were delighted and privileged to have, amongst others, Valerie Raitt, Diocesan Co-ordinator of Spiritual Tourism and Pilgrimages, join us for the trip.
