Come and worship! Holy Trinity, Westport - reopening this weekend!

Fr John and Revd Suzanne with Monica Morley of Midwest Radio

Come and worship!

Buíochas le Dia!
After ten months of closure following Storm Éowyn (24 January 2025), Holy Trinity Church, Westport is reopening at last for worship, this weekend, on Sunday 30 November, at the traditional HTW time of 11.30am. The service will be Holy Communion/ the Eucharist. You are most welcome to come along and join for worship on this significant occasion. Visitors are particularly welcome.

This reopening is a Sunday-only opening, on account of present restrictions, but the plan is that the church will reopen fully to visitors, and be open every day during the week for visits and private prayer - this as early as possible in the New Year.

Faith Alive

In light of the reopening, Monica Morley of Midwest Radio came to Westport on Friday 28 November to interview the Rector and Fr John Kenny for this weekend's Faith Alive programme, and to see this unique church building which is a place of prayer, sacrament and pastoral care.

Prominent in the conversation was the gratitude on the part of the Church of Ireland community (local and diocesan) for the extremely generous hospitality received from St Mary's Church, Westport, and the joyful and positive experience it has been to share the sacred space which is St Mary's. It has felt like a safe, warm and holy, consecrated, place, a "home from home" when the HTW congregation was, in effect, "homeless". Both clergy remarked on the joy and the learning which have grown through the ecumenical partnership, and on the friendship between the communities which has deepened as a result of the hospitality. Revd Suzanne expressed sincere thanks on behalf of the parish to Fr John and the whole St Mary's Parish community, as well as to those who have supported through giving and fundraising efforts towards the cost of the repairs.

You can listen to the Faith Alive interview on Midwest Radio.

Service times going forward

Sundays at 11.30am, except on 11th and 18th January 2026. On these two Sundays, the services will be at 12 noon in St Mary’s Church, S. Mall.

Wednesday morning worship - Midweek Holy Communion - will be as announced. (Please feel free to contact us in this regard - contact details below.)

Thank you for your patience and understanding, and for your ongoing prayers.

Video thanks to Fr John Kenny
