Today's Gospel Matthew 5:38-42
[Jesus said] ‘You have heard that it was said, “An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.” But I say to you, Do not resist an evildoer. But if anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other also; and if anyone wants to sue you and take your coat, give your cloak as well; and if anyone forces you to go one mile, go also the second mile. Give to everyone who begs from you, and do not refuse anyone who wants to borrow from you.

On Jesus' instruction to "turn the other cheek"
You can read an interesting article on this subject by Leah Watkiss at the link below. Watkiss summaries the theologian Walter Wink’s exegesis of the Sermon on the Mount, as presented by Wink (deceased 2012) in his book Jesus and Nonviolence: A Third Way.
She writes: "... in light of Wink’s insights, Jesus’ instruction not to resist evil and to turn the other cheek transforms from an instruction to accept injustice into a challenge to resist systems of domination and oppression without the use of violence. Rather than ignoring an evil situation and hoping it will go away, Jesus is telling his followers to find creative, active, and nonviolent ways to assert their humanity and God’s love in the world."
