Today's Gospel    John 7:1-2,10,25-30

After this Jesus went about in Galilee. He did not wish to go about in Judea because the Jews were looking for an opportunity to kill him. Now the Jewish festival of Booths was near.

But after his brothers had gone to the festival, then he also went, not publicly but as it were in secret.

Now some of the people of Jerusalem were saying, ‘Is not this the man whom they are trying to kill? And here he is, speaking openly, but they say nothing to him! Can it be that the authorities really know that this is the Messiah? Yet we know where this man is from; but when the Messiah comes, no one will know where he is from.’  Then Jesus cried out as he was teaching in the temple, ‘You know me, and you know where I am from. I have not come on my own. But the one who sent me is true, and you do not know him. I know him, because I am from him, and he sent me.’ Then they tried to arrest him, but no one laid hands on him, because his hour had not yet come.

You can find a helpful prayer guide at the link below, along with this reflection:

"In today's Gospel reading, we again find dark clouds approaching rapidly on the horizon. Hostility is growing in certain quarters. It must have been difficult for Jesus' companions to work out why he was attracting so much attention and opposition. Goodness is not always suitably rewarded in this life, but the implication that emerges as we observe Jesus' life and actions is that those who remain faithful to him will receive their reward."

Castlebar: Reconvening of the Annual Meeting of the General Vestry, Thurs 26 March, 7.30pm in Christ Church. Reconvening is on account of a procedural error, wherein more than the permitted number of members were elected by the Meeting (on 10 March) to be Trustees and members of the Select Vestry for 2026-2027. Nominations are therefore invited again of any registered members of the General Vestry who meet the criteria for Trustee membership and are willing to serve in this capacity.

Service on the Select Vestry is for one year at a time. Meetings take place four-to-six times per year and members must be able to attend. The purpose of the SV is to oversee the parish’s Finances, Fabrics, Furnishings and Compliance with law (- both State and Church law). For further information, please contact Mrs Caroline Boyle, Parish Governance Officer, or the Rector.

We look forward to another good year in church and parish life in Christ Church, Castlebar, place of warmth and welcome. “In the name of Christ, we welcome you!”
